ओबामा ने कहा कि वह मुस्लिम अमेरिकियों के खिलाफ भेदभाव को खारिज करते हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि वे लोग भी उतने ही राष्ट्रभक्त हैं जितने हम हैं। उनकी इस टिप्पणी का लोगों ने खासा स्वागत किया। उन्होंने अपने एक और प्रेरक भाषण में कहा कि उन्होंने आतंकवाद के खिलाफ लड़ाई को ठोस कानूनी आधार प्रदान करने के लिए काम किया। यही वजह है कि हमने प्रताड़ना को समाप्त किया, निगरानी से जुड़े अपने कानूनों में सुधार के लिए काम किया ताकि निजता और नागरिक स्वतंत्रता की रक्षा हो सके।
